What is it?

DormMate is a mobile app, developed in React Native and available for both Android and iOS. It helps roommates manage their shared tasks, to-do lists and events, enabling them to stay organized and coordinate their schedules effectively.

It's designed to act as a shared dashboard where users can pin notes, share information about events, guests staying over or periods of unavailability, but also keep track of shared chores and their progression, as well as a list of items that should never run out.

Color yourself at home.

On Android, DormMate is built with Material You, Google's design system powered by dynamic color. DormMate reads your wallpaper's palette and applies it across every surface, so the whole experience adapts to your personal style automatically.

iOS Liquid Glass

Transparency looks good here.

On iOS, DormMate embraces Liquid Glass, Apple's new design language introduced in iOS 26. Floating above the content, glass controls create a sense of depth while allowing DormMate's vibrant colors and clean design to shine through.

Built with

DormMate is a single React Native codebase that runs natively on both Android and iOS. Every screen compiles to each platform's own UI components, so it never feels like a port.

Expo's managed workflow gives access to native platform APIs without writing a line of Swift or Kotlin. It's what powers Material You dynamic color on Android and Liquid Glass on iOS.

Firebase handles the backend. Firestore keeps shared apartment data in sync across all roommates in real time, Auth manages user accounts, and Storage holds profile photos.

Living together brings a handful of recurring needs: knowing what is happening at home, staying in sync on schedules, splitting chores fairly, and keeping shared supplies stocked. Each screen in DormMate is built around exactly one of them.
